About Society for Multiple Sclerosis Patients in Pakistan

The Society for Multiple Sclerosis Patients in Pakistan (SMSPP.org.pk) is aimed at educating MS patients in Pakistan and their family and friends about the disease and helping them to cope with it better. MS or Multiple Sclerosis is not uncommon in Pakistan and studies have shown that 5 cases in a population of 100,000 are affected with this neurological disease. With the efforts of organizations like Bayer Schering Pharma, Multiple Sclerosis Research & Patient Welfare Trust (MSR & PWT) and Neurology Awareness & Research Foundation (N.A.R.F), MS is now largely recognized in Pakistan.

Aims and Objectives

The main objective of the Society for Multiple Sclerosis Patients in Pakistan is to increase awareness of Multiple Sclerosis among the general population. Due to lack of awareness, as well as the varying symptoms, it can take a long time to have your MS diagnosed. But with proper awareness and knowledge, patients may be able to help their doctor in reaching a diagnosis at an early stage.

The society also aims at providing a platform for MS patients to discuss their problems with other MS patients. At SMSPP, we believe that the collection and distribution concerning Multiple Sclerosis will help to enhance the lives of individuals affected by MS. We believe in providing education and empowerment to the community with compassion to promote better care of patients in the long-term.

The society is an initiative taken by an MS patient from Lahore, Pakistan. She was diagnosed with MS in December 2010.
